Monica knew her aunt was an incredible lady, full of life and energy, but had no idea about what she had dedicated her life to.
Romana Kryzanowska is the world-renowned protégé of Joseph Pilates and has been teaching the method for nearly six decades. Long ago Romana made a commitment to Joe and Clara Pilates to continue their life's work and Romana continues to deliver on that promise today by traveling the world and teaching the next generation of instructors.
Upon graduating from college, Monica moved to Manhattan, New York to study under the strict tutelage of Romana. Romana's Pilates® certified instructors go through a demanding training regimen that includes hundreds of hours of observation, rigorous training and thorough performance evaluations. After completing her certification in 1997 she practiced Pilates in Malibu, California before marrying her husband, Brett Wilson, and moving to New Orleans, Louisiana. There, Monica opened her first studio, Uncle Joe's Pilates Studio, and began mentoring apprentices of her own. In 2004, Monica received the highest complement as she was selected to become a Teacher Trainer. Such individuals were selected to participate due to long-term observations of their experience, dedication and skill as Pilates instructors.
In July of 2007, after two beautiful children and the completion of her husband's medical training in New Orleans, the Wilsons decided to move home.
Now settled in Santa Barbara, California, Monica continues teaching apprentices through the Los Angeles based studio and locally at The Studio at Padaro Beach in Carpenteria, California.
