Myth #3: Practicing Online Pilates Means I’m Alone

Reality: You Have a Huge Community of Support

The energy of a group class or the buzz of a private studio can be contagious and motivate you through your best workout. If you're doing Pilates at home or on-the-go, you might feel like you’re missing that community spirit and support, which can leave you feeling uninspired. But know this: you are not alone!

Here are 4 tips to help you create or find the community you crave while practicing Pilates on-the-go:

1. Invite Friends and Family to Join You.

Schedule a coffee date, pre-brunch Sunday Pilates session, or make Pilates the prelude to other group activities.

Practice with your significant other or best friend (the promise of a glass of wine at the end can be a powerful motivator).

Or start a new family tradition. Invite your kids or a parent to join you on the Mat for a fun Pilates-filled afternoon!

2. Start a Challenge.

Committing to a Pilates challenge is the perfect opportunity to have a community experience while working on your fitness. Know that others are doing the challenge along with you, getting stuck in the same places, and working through the same hiccups. And If you need a little extra motivation to keep you going, start a challenge with some friends.

3. Connect with a Favorite Teacher.

Finding a teacher with whom you connect is one of the best ways to stay engaged. (Confession: I've been guilty of fangirling over a beloved teacher!)
Benjamin Degenhardt and Meredith Rogers
Finding a teacher who resonates with you and who seems like he or she is talking just to you (as cliché as it might sound) may help you overcome feelings of isolation.

4. Get Social.

Find friends in forums, interact on facebook, and head over to Instagram to connect and converse. You might make new friends who can motivate you through your Pilates practice and even better, keep you company!

Tip: Check the Pilates Anytime forums and member bios to meet new friends. Plan to watch videos at the same time, and then chat it up on facebook or over text.

In short, Pilates is a lifelong journey, and you don’t have to go it alone!
